CHASE Friction Testing Machine
The machine is the culmination of a successful collaboration between Technofriction and the Engineering faculty of a leading Technical University of India . The machine is priced very attractively . at US$ 16,500 (ex factory).
The main drive is provided by a 10 Hp, 3 phase motor to give a rotational speed of 417 rpm to the test drum. The 1” square sample piece is mounted inside the drum by an easily retractable arm so the loading and unloading of the sample takes less than a minute.
The eleven inch (279 mm) dia Brake Drum is made of Cast Iron and have pearlitic grain structure and an average Brinell hardness of 200 .
Air is supplied to the pneumatic loading cylinder through a pressure transducer to apply a force of 150 Lbs on the test sample. The Resulting Friction Force and the Applied vertical Load are monitored by Load cells . The Drum temperature is measured by an IR Thermometer . Drum Rotational speed is measured electronically . Drum heating is provided by Air Heaters and cooling is achieved by a suction type centrifugal fan . All the major parameters like Applied Load, Friction Force, Drum Temperature and Drum rpm etc. are displayed during the test on the display panel (shown above). A computer operating software performs all control and sequencing functions to capture, display, and report test data and to maintain a database of tests performed.
